Solang Valley
According to legend Kulu was called "Kullutdesh" means end of habitat because locals used to think that after manali there is no land and kullu valley was protected by big mountains. One day locals went to lord Shiva to request a safe passage through big mountains so that they could see whats beyond those mighty mountains. So lord shiva whipped the mountains and created a passage. suddenly that passage was covered by blizzard and large chunks for snow.
one can experience the same weather even today when we cross Rohtang pass.
before Rohtang pass there is small road deviate from highway and which lead us to Solang valley. beautiful but commercialised now.
cheers.
